The
Department of Health works with our member First Nations in promoting
initiatives in the matters of Health and Child Care. Major initiatives
include the establishment of effective Community Day Cares, the initiation
of Community Health Needs Assessments, participation in Regional Health
Surveys conducted by the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre, and
the establishment of a Regional Prescription Drug Abuse Strategy Committee
to combat prescription drug abuse in this area.

The Director of Health is also responsible for the following programs:
ATC
Patient Transportation System |
| This
program assists Status persons in accessing services under the
Noninsured Health Benefits program of Medical Services Branch
by providing accommodation, transportation and meal costs to
eligible members who require medical attention not available
in their home communities. |
Native Liaison Coordinator - Northern Lights Regional Health
Centre |
| This
program assists Native patients at the Health Centre by acting
as liaison between patients and Health Care staff, referring
patients to appropriate resources and services upon discharge
from the facility and by providing interpreter services as required.
The Coordinator works out of the Northern Lights Regional Health
Centre. |
