Mark Amy Treatment Centre for Healing Addictions, Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada

Our Mission Statement:

In the Native Tradition, the Mark Amy Centre will provide holistic treatment in a health environment for people suffering from addictions.

On this journey of life many of us have found the path to be difficult and littered with stones to stumble upon. Many of these stones are but trappings of the past that we continue to carry along with us – dark shadows of the mind – that we continue to stumble upon over and over again.

At Mark Amy Centre we believe that only by exposing the dark to light can we move ahead in our journey and dispel the shadows. Uncovering habits, beliefs and actions which are either self-destructive or cause pain for another is the crucial first step in healing the wounds caused by the sometimes painful and traumatic act of growing into adulthood.

As counselors, we know that until the Inner Truth is brought out into the open and examined in complete honesty, the issues and pain of life before addictions will re-surface again and again becoming exponentially larger until you are either "forced" to confront and resolve them or you stand before your Creator having paid the ultimate price.

Overcoming Reluctance

The purpose of the Mark Amy Treatment Program is to re-teach the ways of clean living. Often people are afraid of treatment. There is a stigma attached to it - they’re afraid their neighbors or employers will judge them; they may be professionals afraid of losing standing in the business community; they may be parents afraid of losing their children if it becomes known that they had a need for treatment.

Our programs are private and confidential. Our mandate is to guide the client down the paths that will allow them to uncover the past issues that led to an addictive lifestyle and assist them to find the tools and resources that will keep them strong in the endeavors of recovery.

Program Description

Our programs are 28-days in length and have a Healing Week Component in the last week. This component allows the participants to address unresolved childhood issues that keep them from healing and staying well due to relapse and a return to dysfunctional behaviors, such as alcoholism, drug abuse and gambling.

Our Treatment Program is specifically tailored to address the needs of the community – be it youth, families or Elders. Currently we are working together with Business & Industry and their own Employee Family Assistance Program coordinators to design and implement programming specific to the region’s workforce.
